I was just watching 'Back to the Future III' and it occurred to me that rather than high-jacking the train and and using the experimental logs to boost its speed they should have simply made a large number of rockets to strap to the back of the car... magnesium was discovered 30 years prior to the setting and was being used for flash photography at the time, rendering the magnesium with some form of fat would have slowed the burn enough to generate a steady trust if focused through an appropriate nozzle and Dr. Brown would have known all of this... anyone have any ideas why that route was not taken when it is clearly the more viable solution?
